Strengthening Lebanon’s First Responders: WIDER Supports Red Cross Volunteers with Transformative Training

Beirut, Lebanon – WIDER continues to Invest in Lebanon’s humanitarian frontlines by providing training initiative for Red Cross volunteers across Lebanon. Through a series of tailored programs focused on leadership, communication, emotional intelligence, and decision-making under pressure, WIDER continues to invest in developing the people who dedicate themselves to saving lives.

This initiative is part of WIDER’s enduring commitment to creating value through values—a core belief that those who serve the nation and its people deserve access to world-class development tools, regardless of profit or publicity.

“Red Cross volunteers are often the first to arrive and the last to leave in times of crisis,” said Joe Moarkech, CEO of WIDER Group. “By offering our expertise on a pro bono basis, we’re not just supporting their missions—we’re strengthening the very fabric of civil service in Lebanon.”

The training sessions, which are held regularly in coordination with regional Red Cross branches, include the following core focus areas:

  • Leadership under pressure: Equipping volunteers with the ability to lead teams during high-stakes emergency situations.
  • Effective communication: Training on how to deliver clear, empathetic, and assertive communication in critical and often chaotic environments.
  • Emotional intelligence: Helping volunteers better understand and manage their own emotional responses, and those of others, in high-stress scenarios.
  • Conflict management and problem solving: Providing volunteers with practical tools to navigate interpersonal challenges on the field and in coordination hubs.
  • Team cohesion and peer support: Fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, and resilience within and across response teams.

These sessions are customized to the specific needs of Red Cross volunteers, integrating real-life examples and scenarios they encounter in their work—from medical emergencies to disaster response and community outreach.

“WIDER’s support has made a tangible difference in how our volunteers show up, communicate, and work together,” said [Insert Red Cross Official’s Name], a representative of the Lebanese Red Cross. “They are not just helping us train better responders; they’re helping us become stronger people.”

WIDER’s work with the Red Cross is a natural extension of its larger vision: to enable people to grow, lead, and serve—no matter their title or context. Through initiatives like this, WIDER affirms that true leadership is not about hierarchy, but about humanity.
